The former post office, which had been converted into a house, sits within the village conservation area and adjacent a Grade ll Listed cottage. We designed an extension and internal alterations to create a modern but sympathetically designed home.
The house originally had a linear plan running along the northern boundary of the site, with a lean to entrance porch and garage to the south. The garage and lean to were demolished and a two storey extension built to rationalise the circulation within the home with an impressive front entrance and important additional living and bedroom space.

Our clients were keen to incorporate a contemporary aesthetic, alongside the retention of traditional features. The new extension is traditional in style from the street, lime rendered with an oak porch and casement windows. To the rear, the design is modern and dynamic with large amounts of glazing to make the most of the views of the garden. The angled wall frames the beautiful view across the countryside, with a raking gable to reduce any impact on the adjacent listed building. By also rationalising the internal layout, there is now an impressive front entrance and important additional living and bedroom space.
