Creative Workspace and Office Refurbishment

AJA was appointed to transform a former industrial building into Antenna, a vibrant creative workspace in Nottingham city centre. The refurbishment created flexible offices, collaborative workspaces and specialist facilities, providing an inspiring home for creative businesses and digital industries.

Our Role

Working closely with Confetti, AJA redeveloped the building to create a high-quality, fully serviced business hub that supports collaboration, innovation and business growth. The project combined the sensitive refurbishment of the existing building with modern workplace design, improved accessibility and upgraded building services.

The Brief

When Confetti acquired the building, it had been subdivided into a series of small textile manufacturing units with limited accessibility and outdated services. The brief was to create flexible office space, meeting rooms and hot-desking facilities for creative businesses, supported by shared amenities including a restaurant, bar and collaborative breakout spaces.

The Scheme

The building was stripped back to its original structure, allowing the installation of new fire protection, modern building services and energy-efficient lighting throughout. Two new accessible staircases and a passenger lift significantly improved circulation and accessibility, while high-speed wired and wireless connectivity was integrated across the entire building.

Externally, the brickwork was cleaned and repointed, damaged windows replaced, and a striking new entrance created within a former loading bay to provide level access. Internally, acoustic partitions formed a range of naturally lit office suites, while an underused basement storage area was transformed into a high-specification sound post-production studio.

The Result

Today, Antenna is one of Nottingham's leading creative business hubs, providing flexible workspace for a thriving community of creative and digital companies. Its collaborative environment, city centre location and high-quality facilities have helped attract innovative businesses, while the specialist post-production studio has supported the production of award-winning films.
