Designed for a rural site, this highly innovative eco-home secured planning permission under NPPF Paragraph 55, recognising it as an outstanding example of architectural quality and innovation.
Sustainability sits at the heart of the design. The house combines low-carbon construction, natural local materials and Passivhaus principles to create a home with exceptionally low energy demand. Inspired by AJA's award-winning Flower Pod project in Southwell, the building uses compressed straw bale walls from a local farm, lime render, timber shingles sourced from a Nottinghamshire sawmill and sheep's wool insulation.
The home has been modelled using the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) and designed to meet rigorous Passivhaus standards. Exceptional levels of insulation, airtight construction and passive solar design work together to minimise energy consumption, creating a comfortable, healthy and highly efficient home for the future.
