As you enter the house, there is a large entrance hallway which leads through to the open kitchen, dining, living area. Sliding doors will lead onto an enclosed courtyard terrace with external fireplace and extensive views of the garden and countryside beyond, strengthening the connection between the house and the outside space. There are also more intimately sized rooms including a snug and study on this floor. Upstairs are 4 large double bedrooms, with the master having an ensuite and dressing room and making the most of the countryside views. The remaining upstairs bedrooms are also serviced by a family bathroom.
The finished house will stand boldly within the soft landscaping, with black aluminium windows and charred timber cladding used throughout, not only creating a modern aesthetic but also keeping the building low maintenance. The outbuildings near the main house which house a gym and swimming pool, will also be clad with charred timber to tie them in with the overall aesthetic of the scheme. Extensive glazing has been used throughout the scheme making for an elegant and more lightweight design but also allows in natural light, reducing the need for lighting to a minimum.
We designed the project using a fabric first approach to create the most sustainable building possible. The proposal is for an environmentally responsible home which utilises triple glazing, MVHR, heat pumps and rainwater harvesting. Flat roofs also mean solar panels can be optimally orientated for maximum efficiency dependent on the sun path, but the addition of a parapet upstand means they are completely hidden from view.
The build has begin and completion is due at the end of 2024.
