Lyng Hall School Sports Hall, Coventry

Allan Joyce Architects were appointed by Geda Construction to take the planning-stage design of a new sports hall at an existing Coventry school site through to full technical delivery. The project provides enhanced sports and fitness facilities to support a growing pupil population while creating opportunities for wider community use.

The new facility forms part of a wider ambition to improve indoor sports provision across Coventry, helping schools and local communities access better-quality spaces for physical activity, health and wellbeing.

Supporting Education and Community Use

The existing sports facilities could no longer meet the needs of the expanding school population. The new building was designed to significantly increase capacity, providing a flexible and high-quality environment for physical education, extracurricular activities and community programmes.

The completed facility includes a four-court sports hall, weights room and modern fitness suite, creating a diverse range of spaces that encourage participation in sport and support healthier lifestyles. Beyond the school day, the building provides a valuable community resource, helping strengthen connections between the school and the wider area.

Technical Delivery and Construction Coordination

AJA's role focused on delivering the complete RIBA Stage 4 Technical Design, translating the approved architectural proposals into coordinated construction information ready for delivery.

Working closely with Geda Construction and specialist subcontractors, we produced fully coordinated Building Information Modelling (BIM) information, resolving key technical considerations including buildability, compliance, material coordination and construction sequencing.

This process ensured that the design intent was maintained while providing the detailed information required for an efficient construction process.
