A world-first centre for teaching E-sports event production

Creating One of the UK's Leading Esports Facilities

As esports has grown into a global industry, education providers have needed facilities that mirror the professional environments students will enter after graduation. Building on our long-standing relationship with Confetti, part of Nottingham Trent University, Allan Joyce Architects were appointed to design Confetti X alongside specialist acoustic and technical consultants and fit-out contractor Constellations.

The 1,300m² redevelopment transformed an underused car park within Confetti's Nottingham campus into a world-class esports venue, broadcast studio and teaching facility, providing students with access to industry-standard environments while creating a venue capable of hosting national and international events.

Designed Around Industry

The design combines specialist teaching spaces with a fully operational live events venue, allowing students to develop practical skills using the same technologies and workflows found throughout the esports, broadcast and live production industries.

At the heart of the building is a flexible esports arena featuring a 9-metre 4K video wall, audience seating and VIP areas. While capable of welcoming spectators for live events, the venue was primarily designed as a professional broadcast space, enabling competitions and content to be streamed to global audiences.

Supporting facilities include:

  • Broadcast control gallery.
  • Team warm-up and training suites.
  • Green screen studio.
  • Shoutcaster and presenter studios.
  • Analyst rooms.
  • Flexible teaching and production spaces.
  • Double-height social and breakout space for students and visitors.

Together, these spaces create an immersive learning environment where students gain experience across every aspect of esports production, from broadcasting and event management to technical operations and content creation.

Education Meets Entertainment

The venue provides far more than teaching accommodation. Designed to host professional competitions, live broadcasts and industry events, Confetti X strengthens Nottingham's position as one of the UK's leading destinations for esports and digital media.

The facility has hosted major productions, including BBC Children in Need: Game On, and has gained recognition from both Twitch and the British Esports Federation, giving students opportunities to learn within a nationally recognised venue.

Future-Focused Learning Environments

Confetti X demonstrates how specialist education spaces can also operate as commercial venues, creating authentic learning experiences while supporting public events, industry partnerships and community engagement.

The project reflects Allan Joyce Architects' expertise in designing higher education facilities that combine flexibility, technical performance and exceptional user experience.
