A state of the art Confetti campus in London's creative centre, Whitechapel

Expanding a Proven Education Model

Following the success of its Nottingham campus, Confetti, part of Nottingham Trent University, appointed Allan Joyce Architects to design its new 35,000 sq ft creative industries campus in central London.

The new campus extends Confetti's unique approach to higher education, providing students with industry-standard facilities for music, esports, live events, content creation and virtual production in one of the world's leading creative cities.

Transforming an Existing Building

Located within a major redevelopment of a former London Metropolitan University building, the project transformed part of a 1960s concrete structure into a vibrant new learning environment.

Working alongside the landlord's architect, Hawkins\Brown, and contractor Oktra, Allan Joyce Architects led the design of Confetti's facilities while coordinating with the wider redevelopment team. Despite the complexity of delivering multiple projects simultaneously within an occupied city-centre development, the campus was designed, coordinated and completed within an ambitious 18-month programme, welcoming its first students in September 2023.

Designed Around Industry

The campus has been designed to immerse students in professional environments that mirror the industries they aspire to join.

Facilities include:

  • A 600-capacity live performance venue.
  • Professional recording studios.
  • Virtual production studio.
  • Esports and content creation facilities.
  • Live events production and technical teaching spaces.
  • Flexible classrooms and computer suites.
  • Social learning and collaboration spaces.
  • Student support and wellbeing facilities.

The generous entrance, reception and open-plan social hub create a welcoming focal point for the campus, encouraging collaboration, networking and informal learning throughout the day.

A Flexible Learning Environment

Drawing inspiration from Confetti's Nottingham campus, the interior combines exposed concrete, visible building services and warm timber finishes to create a contemporary industrial aesthetic that reflects the creative industries.

Every space has been designed with flexibility in mind, allowing facilities to evolve alongside new technologies, changing teaching methods and future industry requirements. This future-focused approach ensures the campus can continue supporting students throughout the rapidly changing creative sector.

Creating Opportunities for the Next Generation

Designed to accommodate up to 1,350 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the new campus strengthens Confetti's position as one of the UK's leading providers of creative industries education.

By combining professional production environments with outstanding teaching spaces, the campus provides students with the practical skills, industry experience and collaborative culture needed to build successful careers in music, gaming, broadcasting and live events.
