Since joining AJA in 2015, Lucia has led a wide range of education and commercial projects from early concept design through to completion. She has extensive experience delivering complex educational buildings, from traditional schools and learning environments to specialist teaching facilities that support practical and vocational learning. Alongside this, she has worked on commercial projects including workplaces, mixed-use developments and buildings that support businesses and organisations as they evolve.
Clients value Lucia's ability to balance ambition with reality. She understands that successful projects need to combine creativity, functionality and commercial understanding, ensuring buildings are not only architecturally inspiring but also practical to operate, adaptable for the future and delivered successfully.
In education, Lucia is passionate about creating environments that support teaching, learning and wellbeing. In commercial projects, she focuses on understanding how people interact with spaces and how thoughtful design can improve productivity, collaboration and the identity of an organisation.
Lucia believes high-quality design and sustainability should be integral to every project. She is passionate about creating buildings that reduce environmental impact while enhancing the experiences of the people who use them, whether that is a pupil learning in a new classroom, a business working in a new office or a community using a shared facility.
Originally from Italy, Lucia graduated with distinction from the University G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara before studying at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Lyon through the Erasmus Mundus programme. Her final year project explored how architectural design can introduce new ways of inhabiting spaces in harmony with the environment and received both the international RI.U.SO. 2013 Award and the national France Trophées Jeunes Talents Architecture award.
Before joining AJA, Lucia gained experience working in award-winning practices in Rome and Milan, including involvement with the Italian EXPO Pavilion 2015. This provided experience across a range of sectors including museums, schools, community buildings and mixed-use developments. She has been ARB registered since 2017.
Lucia is inspired by architecture that sits between art, nature and human experience. Buildings that have influenced her thinking include Tadao Ando's Chichu Art Museum, Ryue Nishizawa's Teshima Art Museum and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, all of which demonstrate how thoughtful design can create powerful connections between people, place and environment.
Outside the studio, Lucia enjoys travelling, visiting architectural and design exhibitions, and exploring buildings around the world. She is also passionate about making pizza and has even shared her skills through a pizza-making masterclass with the AJA team.
Planning an education facility, workplace or commercial development? Lucia and the AJA team combine creativity, sustainability and practical delivery experience to create buildings that support people, organisations and communities
