Ruth knew she wanted to be an architect when she was at school because she realised architecture could combine both her enjoyment of mathematics and physics with design. After finishing school, she went on to study architecture at the University of Edinburgh and became fully qualified in 2017. She joined AJA in 2021 and has worked on several buildings of historic significance.
When working with historical buildings, Ruth enjoys opportunities to integrate new modern architectural solutions which complements the old and new. When working with existing and historical building she also appreciates the challenge to create architectural solutions that are universally accessible. These aspirations are not always easily achieved but she endeavours to reach them when each opportunity arises.
When asked what her favourite building was, Ruth couldn’t answer because she loves so many. She’s actually never had a favourite building but from a young age, and to this day, she has always admired the Sydney Opera House. For her, it combines creativity with the ingenuity of geometrical and mathematical solutions to generate a complex but elegant architectural design.
In her spare time, Ruth loves watching and doing sports. Whether it’s a local spin or a longer endurance ride she really enjoys cycling of all kinds. She is also a big fan of ice hockey and F1.
