Cara thrives in collaborative environments, enjoying the shared purpose that comes from working as part of a team with common goals and interests. Her creativity, combined with a deep appreciation for the positive impact that both built and natural environments can have on everyday life, inspired her to pursue a career in architecture.
Early in her career, Cara worked within specialist conservation practices, contributing to projects on sites of significant heritage value. This experience led to her achieving accreditation as a RIBA Conservation Architect.
Cara is particularly passionate about the adaptive re-use of historic and derelict buildings, as well as the creation of spaces that leave a lasting impression. One building that has profoundly influenced her is the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome. Originally constructed as a Roman bathhouse around 300 AD, the structure was later transformed into a Catholic basilica in the 16th century, with original designs by Michelangelo. Its preserved ruin-like exterior and breathtaking interior embody the transformative power of architecture that Cara finds so inspiring.
Outside of her professional life, Cara enjoys an active and family-focused lifestyle. She is closely involved in her local squash club, where she supports her two teenage sons in their sporting pursuits and also plays socially herself. She is an enthusiastic runner, and dedicates much of the warmer months to tending her allotment.
