Complete Refurbishment of a 1960’s House

Client: Private
Completed: 2003

Budget: Undisclosed

Springfield House is situated in rural Nottinghamshire, on a beautiful site with views of the local church tower in the distance. The original house was built in the 1960’s and was suffering from poor quality render and single glazing, as well as a shallow pitched roof and outdated interiors.

Allan Joyce Architects were commissioned to completely overhaul the house to give it a contemporary appearance inside and out. A new glazed link was designed to join together the house and garage block. This link housed the new dining room and staircase. The roof was re-roofed in a dark grey slate, windows are dark grey aluminium and both contrast with the white external render.  Not only has the appearance of the house been completely transformed, but also the green credentials have been significantly improved with insulation in the walls and roof. A new south facing landscaped courtyard and large expanses of glass to the main living areas provide the ingredients for indoor / outdoor living.
