Proposals for a State of the Art Healthcare Facility

Client: Trentside Medical Group and Manor Pharmacy
Status: Current

Budget: £2.5m

Allan Joyce Architects were appointed to design a state of the art new NHS healthcare facility for Trentside Medical Group in Netherfield, Nottingham, after Manor Pharmacy had been able to acquire the vacant, derelict site. The site was of the former Carlton Netherfield Infant and Nursery School on Ashwell Street but had lay dormant for nearly a decade. During this time there have been significant changes in the way that NHS healthcare is to be delivered with GPs and community focussed healthcare having a far greater role. Trentside Medical Group's main surgery around the corner is struggling to cope with current demands, and with these changes, as well as increases in patient numbers likely to come from the Teal Close development, they knew a much larger new premises would be needed.

The building has been designed to offer a wide range of community healthcare from normal GP and nurse services, through to specialist clinicians, as well as health-education teaching spaces and a cafe with a focus on alzheimers and age-related illness. There will also be a minor surgery suite offering a range of small procedures without the wait normally associated with a trip to hospital.

The building is a modern design with a circular drum at the prominent corner of the site on Meadow Road and a pedestrian entrance at this side, with another entrance to the rear of the parking area. It will be an eco-surgery too, with super insulated walls and solar panels supplying electricity to the building. The building has been designed with plenty of parking inside the site, as well as bike stores and even electric car charge points.  It is hoped the building will be a great asset for the local community in the years to come.
