Refurbishment of existing offices

Client: Nelsons Solicitors
Completed: 2007

Budget: £1.1m

“Allan Joyce Architects helped us transform a tired building into an attractive modern office space, featuring the conversion of derelict attic space into a widely admired conference suite with panoramic views of the city. Their design ideas were creative but sympathetic with the character of the building – and they were also all pragmatic people who were a pleasure to work with.”

Nelsons Solicitors occupy a Grade II Listed building in the heart of Nottingham. Originally a warehouse, constructed in 1854, it was converted into offices in the late 20th Century. Allan Joyce Architects were employed to refurbish all public reception areas and make alterations to achieve DDA compliance.

The project architect produced a series of 3D images to help the client visualise ideas. This helped them to make decisions relating to the type of materials and finishes, furniture and spatial quality.

A significant part of the development of the proposals and implementation of ideas was done in close consultation with the conservation department at the Local Authority. Details were agreed with the conservation officer of how the existing glazed conservatory would be re-roofed, and how additional accommodation could be provided at rooftop level.
